Tag Rugby Competition

Yesterday, we took a team of 9 children to Barking Rugby club for their annual Tag Rugby Competition. Unfortunately, we had to return the shield we won last year 😦

We played 3 group matches, we won a match, drew a match and lost a match however, we made it to the semi finals 🙂

The semi final was a very tough match and unfortunately we lost 3-5!

The team played well and tagged the other teams brilliantly. I was very impressed with our tagging skills.

Better luck next time team.

Cross Country Competition 2015

Back at the beginning of October, myself and Mandy took 24 children to the borough cross country Competion at Mayesbrook Park.

It was a very wet and cold day, but that didn’t stop the competition! Well done to all the children, some placed better than last year (PB). In each year group there were over 150 children running, most of our children placed under 100, which is fantastic.

Marvolous – Year 4, came 4th overall in the Y4 girls race

Semi – Year 6, came 3rd overall in the Y6 boys race

Basilio – Year 6, came 1st overall in the Y6 boys race (2nd year in a row)

** Sports News **

WOW – our children are just fantastic!

BASKETBALL – It’s official, our team came joint 9th place in the London School Games out of 33 borough’s, don’t forget these teams are the best school in their borough, some boroughs (like LBBD) have around 30 schools in and those schools battled it out at competitions back in March and sent their best school to the London Youth Games. We think we did really well! 👏 (they spelt our name wrong, but it’s defiantly us!) 😃

ATHLETICS – We have the OVERALL results for each year group, all the children’s scores were added up from their sprint, long distant, jump and throw, and this is were they came,

London School Games 2015

Barking & Dagenham 3v3 Basketball Team 2015

(AKA – Dorothy Barley Junior Academy)

Today 1st July, we took our basketball team to Crystal Palace National Sports Ground to play against 32 other boroughs.  A very hot day, saw us getting on a 2 trains all before 10am!  Once we arrived, we went and had a look around, there was hundreds of children from all over London.

We found the basketball courts and settled our luggage down, then off for a warm up.  Some of the other children very, very, very tall, Nelson asked the same boy about 3 times, his age and school year as he was taller than Kieron and looked like a man!

So the teams were divided into 8 groups of 4 teams, with only the top team, going through to the semi-finals.  In our group we had Havering, Hounslow and  Hamersmith & Fulham.  Our 1st match was against Havering, we lost this game 10-0 (I think our team were nervous).  But in true DBJA sprit we bounced back winning the next game 2-0. By now Havering had won both their games and we could see that it was going to be between them and us!

Then we had lunch and went to explore the other sports, we found the football and went and had a kick around in the football dome.  Kieron managed to find the smallest goal ever!

So our last game we had a swap around and won 16-4. Now we were the only team to score the maxim 16 points in a game, but unfortunately it wasnt enough as Harvering won the group, with us coming a close 2nd.  Havering went on to win the whole Competion, so we don’t mind losing to the top team in London.

Well done to all 8 of our children. You worked hard to get this far, not a lot of children your age can say they played for their borough. 😃🏀👍

**** UPDATE **** We came 14th in the Competion, out of 33 teams 🙂 WoW #proud

Girls Football Festival

Today (Friday 19th June) we took some Year 4 girls to a football festival. The aim of today was to teach girls, that haven’t played football before. This morning they did some drills and training, then after lunch they were split into teams and played matches.

As you can see from the photo they were at least 100 girls from Barking and Dagenham schools. Well done to our girls, who were well behaved and enjoyed themselves. Lets hope they have learnt some good football skills and will come to ours Y5/6 girls football club.

While we were there, Dagenham United FC were handing out flyers to the girls to get them to come along for training for a new girls club they are starting on Saturday mornings.

If any of the girls in DBJA are interested, see the flyer below, don’t forget you must bring an adult with you.

Y5/6 Borough Athletics Competition

Another sunny day day at the Jim Smith Arena, this time with the Year 5 and 6 athletics teams.

We are very pleased to say that the Year 5 team came 3rd overall and the Year 6 came 5th, we may have some outstanding individual results, but we have to wait for confirmation!

Today they ran 75m sprint, 600m long distance, Vortex throw and standing long jump. Well done to all of our sporting children, they have worked very hard this year.

Year 3/4 LBBD Athletics Competition

We had a brilliant day over Jim Smith Arena, the sun was shinning, both teams behaved really well and the year 4 team came 2nd in the borough 🙂

25 Schools from across the borough took part, there were 400 children in total!!

Each child had to take part in 4 events, 50m Sprint, 400m Long Distance, Vortex Throw and a Standing Jump. All the scores were added up and put together as a team.

Myself and Mandy met Duncan Goodhew, who is a British Olympic Gold Medal Winner, back when we were children, in 1980! Do you know what sport he won Gold In?
