Year 4 shine at borough sports!

On Thursday 7th July, Year 4 went to Barking Abbey to take part in a borough sports competition against Becontree Primary School.

The year group were split into 12 teams and every child participated in 6 different sports; dodgeball, judo, football, boccia (a Paralympic sport), athletics and a Change for Life event.

The focus of the day was on team spirit, with each team making up a team name and chant. Points were awarded to the teams cheering the loudest. DBJA did an great job of cheering on all of their team mates and displayed excellent sportsmanship.

At the end of the day, each child received a medal to demonstrate their fantastic participation. Well done Year 4!

Year 4 celebrate Children in Need!

To raise money and awareness for Children in Need, DBJA decided to hold a non-uniform day on Thursday 12 November. Staff and students were asked to come dressed as their favourite superhero, character from a book or dress like Pudsey Bear.

All of the pupils looked amazing and we raised lots of money for Children in Need, so thank you for all your donations. To give you a taste of the wonderful outfits, below is a picture of pupils from Black Oak and Bayberry, along with their teachers, Miss Robertson and Miss Wildbore!!

Bayberry & Banyan Score the Sporting Trophy!

Last Friday, Banyan and Bayberry classes headed down to the Barking Sportshouse and Gym to compete in an interborough sporting competition. The idea of the event was to offer students the opportunity to participate in a number of sports that they may not have ever tried before.

We played basketball, bocce and football. We participated in fencing, street dance and athletics events. We also played handball and had a go at curling!

Our classes were split into five teams. We named ourselves  the Fantastic Falcons, Lightning Slayers, Fire Strikes, Radical Rockets and the Super Flash Clan. We competed against each other and against teams from other schools in the borough.

Miss Scattini, Miss Daws, Mr Doylie, Miss Eadon, Miss Harris and student teacher Amylee all attended the event. They even joined into the sporting events and helped cheer the children on.

Our students were absolutely amazing. We were commended on our exceptional behaviour, team spirit and good sportsmanship. One of our students, Max Sexton, even managed to score 7 out of the 8 points that won DBJA their basketball game! What a superstar!

At the end of the day the organisers of the event announced that there would be two trophies awarded. One for sportsmanship and one for being the overall point scorer for the day.

We are incredibly proud to say that one of the DBJA sporting teams were indeed the highest point scorers of the day! With their hard work and energy they were able to secure the shiny silver trophy!

Congratulations to all of the students who participated! You were amazing!
